Located at the end of the Yule quarry road in Marble, Colorado, adjacent to the Yule marble quarry.  The private Marble Quarry Trail follows the scenic Yule Creek canyon, offering views of historic and modern marble quarry operations.

Where is the marble quarry trail?

The quarry road is just off Gunnison County Road #3 in Marble, Colorado.  Make a right (heading south) at the fire station and follow the quarry road for approximately 3 1/3 miles.   Marble blocks form a guard rail at the end of the quarry road, just before the public parking area to the left (east) of the active quarry's gate. 

A large vintage timber frame barn will be visible on the marble ridge with the marble rubble pile also visible further in the distance.

McIntyre v. Board of County Com'rs, Gunnison County, 86 P.3d 402 (Colo. March 15, 2004).  Link to the Colorado Supreme Court Opinion

 

Is this a private or public trail?

In 2004, the Colorado Supreme Court determined that the marble quarry trail on private land was not a public highway because Gunnison County took no action to claim a public right to it, for example, by doing maintenance or placing the footpath on its trail and road system.  Therefore, although many people may have used the trail in the past, the trail remains private.
